Museum Hours

Summer Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, Noon-4 p.m. June, July and August
Winter Hours Tuesday-Friday, Noon-4 p.m. September-May

Guided tours of the museum are offered on the second Saturday of June, July, and August. To assure a group, please call the office prior to that Tuesday at 218-365-3226.

Admission rates: Adult: $5;  Seniors $4; Youth 6-16. $3; Under 6 Free.


Objectives of the EWHS

* To promote an awareness of the Ely-Winton area’s history – the people, the events, the places, and their importance

* To provide assistance to those seeking information, of the area’s history or of the history of their families

* To collect and preserve historical information, artifacts, and photographs

* To operate and maintain the Ely-Winton History Museum for the display of the area’s history

Tower Soudan Historical Society welcomes new members.  Memberships support our many projects including restoration of the train, our cemetery-on-line and cleanup of Potter's Field.

Heritage Museum Hours

Located alongside beautiful Olcott Park, the museum complex consists of the former park superintendent’s residence, a Finnish log house and a depression-era tourist cabin.  Permanent exhibits depict the giant Virginia & Rainy Lake Lumber Company and Virginia’s fires of 1893.  Changing exhibits are found throughout the buildings.  The museum also houses local archival and artifact collections.  The facility is handicapped accessible.


The museum is open 11:00 – 4:00 the following dates:

May 1 – Sept. 30, Wednesday – Saturday 

Oct. 1 – April 30, Thursday – Saturday

Admission is by donation.

Virginia Area Historical Society has 250 members from all parts of the country.  Membership benefits include free admission to the museum, quarterly newsletters and monthly meetings that include historical or cultural programs held monthly October - April.
